From the factory Toyota gave the Tacoma a plastic and odd design for a tailgate cover. The plastic is poor quality and I'm not sure about you but it kills my knees trying to climb in or out of my bed. The PakRax tailgate panel upgrade is a mod I didn't even think I needed but I'm glad I made the upgrade. It's a very simple install and it has saved the pain in my knees many times. I also like that you can not place a cup on the tailgate when its open and not worry about it spilling. If you're still running the factory bumpy plastic tailgate panel then grab a PakRax tailgate panel and upgrade your Tacoma already, you can thank me later.
I had previously installed a Mountian Hatch tailgate panel which cracked in three of the four corners after 7 months. Switched to the PAKRAX tailgate panel insert and it is bullet proof. I would highly recommend this to anyone with a Tacoma.
